Finasteride Tablets are used to treat an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), in men. They work by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that causes the prostate to grow. Lowering DHT levels helps shrink the prostate, improve urine flow, and reduce symptoms such as difficulty starting urination, weak stream, and frequent or urgent urination.

Finasteride can also lower the risk of acute urinary retention and the need for prostate surgery. The tablets are taken once daily, with benefits usually seen after several months of continuous use.
