Differin Gel
Differin Gel contains adapalene, a type of retinoid used to treat acne by targeting several of its underlying causes. It works by regulating skin cell turnover to prevent pores from becoming clogged, reducing inflammation, and promoting faster healing of existing spots. Suitable for mild to moderate acne, Differin Gel can help clear blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples while improving overall skin texture.
It is applied once daily in a thin layer to affected areas, usually in the evening. Consistent use over several weeks is needed for best results, and mild dryness or irritation may occur initially as the skin adjusts.

Week 3 on Differin – yes had some dry skin, and regular spots appearing tell me skin is purging but they are healing fast and my existing spots from 3 weeks ago gone completely. Have been using this for almost half a year now. I’m in my 20’s and have always struggled with acne. I combine this with moisturizing, calming korean skincare, products from la roche posay, and cerave mositurizing cream, and use benzol peroxide on occasional breakouts (that I get around my period). My skin did need to get used to it. It was very dry and sensitive, so I only used it once or twice a week. I now use it every day without troubles. My skin is a lot more healthy, and I have an overal glowy look. My acne is much much less than it used to be. I feel like it fades a lot of scars as well. research shows that any form of retinol (which adapalene is) is the 2nd best way to prevent signs of aging in skin. Suncream is always the most important and effective of course.

I have been using Different on and off for many years to treat adult acne. According to my dermatologist, this should be a staple product in my evening routine. I have been following her advice (as well as using other cosmetic products that she recommended) and have managed to stay acne-free for a few years now. It can be tricky to get the right amount at first and it’s easy to forget that with Differin less is more, but overall it’s a great product. Using a gentle cleanser and a good non-comedogenic moisturizer has helped me deal with occasional skin dryness and enjoy the full benefits of Differin.

Really helped my acne although I do still need to go up a percentage to clear my skin fully. My scaring and texture is the best it’s been since I developed acne around 13. Of course it’s a retinoid you do experience dryness and sensitivity when you start but it was easily managed by just mixing a few drops of vit e oil before applying. I think I maybe had to take one or 2 days off due to dryness a week in.

I’m on my second month and definitely rate Differin for tackling acne, skin texture, white heads etc. Before using the Differin, I used a ‘pure’ retinol for about 3 weeks before switching to Differin so by that point I’d purged already and the purge with the Differin wasn’t really noticeable. Depending on my skin each day I choose either to moisturise with something like Cerave first, waiting for 30 mins then applying Differin. Some days, when my skin feels less irritable and dry, I put the Differin on straight away after washing with a gentle cleanser. No two days are ever the same! I just have to judge what’s best for my skin each day. I’ll definitely be continuing treatment for the full 3 months and then will research whether I can switch between a retinol product, like something from the Inkey list, and Differin a few times a week. To keep up the improved clarity and texture of my skin and also tackle fine lines and ageing etc (I’m 31 so need it!) For anyone unsure about Differin, purging, etc, please persevere.

I found Differin gel to be very effective for acne and blocked pores, although like some other users have posted I had to be patient. I think the effects started to be noticeable after 3 months but the maximum benefit took about 6 months.

I introduced it gradually (at first I used it twice a week and increased use every 2 weeks), used a moisturizer before and after application, used sunscreen every day and I have not used any other actives.
