Nitrofurantoin MR Capsules
Nitrofurantoin MR (modified release) capsules are an antibiotic used to treat and prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). They work by interfering with the bacteria’s ability to produce essential proteins, stopping their growth and eventually killing them. The modified release formulation allows the medicine to be released slowly over time, maintaining effective levels in the urine with fewer daily doses.
Nitrofurantoin is particularly effective against common UTI-causing bacteria and is concentrated in the bladder, where it targets the infection directly. It should be taken with food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset, and the full prescribed course should always be completed.
