Omeprazole capsules are a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid, such as acid reflux, heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. They work by blocking the action of proton pumps in the stomach lining, which significantly reduces acid production. This helps relieve symptoms, protect the oesophagus from acid damage, and promote healing of ulcers.

Omeprazole is usually taken once daily, ideally before a meal, and may take a few days to reach full effect. It can be used short-term for symptom relief or long-term under medical supervision.

    After a long bout of the flu, followed by a chest infection I found that I had bad acid reflux which was making my throat sore and my voice very hoarse . I started taking Omeprazole just over two weeks ago whilst waiting to see an ENT consultant. I am happy to say that although my voice is still croaky, the acid reflux is improving and my consultant has advised me to continue with it for at least another 4 weeks. I have tried other PPI’s in the past and had side effects, but with Omeprazole I dont have any.
